Case Study: implementation of the Digital Product Passport for Sevengrams via AnchorPass
05-06-2026
<a href="https://www.7gr.it/">Sevengrams (7Gr.)</a>, a specialty coffee roaster, integrated the <b>AnchorPass</b> platform for the adoption of the Digital Product Passport (DPP). The implementation enabled supply chain traceability on a distributed ledger (blockchain), proactive alignment with European sustainability directives, and optimization of informative engagement with the final consumer.
Company profile
Founded in Milan in 2009, Sevengrams operates in the artisanal roasting and technical training sector. Through the brands 7Gr. and Lot Zero, the company manages complex supply chains that require the monitoring of rigorous quality parameters throughout the entire production cycle, from origin to distribution.
The challenge: transparency, storytelling, and compliance
In the high-end coffee market, product value is dependent on the transparency of technical data (altitude, processing methods, roasting profiles). Sevengrams identified three strategic objectives:
Supply Chain digitalization: consolidation of provenance data from the countries of origin (Ethiopia, Colombia) to the roastery in Milan.
Regulatory compliance (ESPR): early adaptation to the technical requirements of the Digital Product Passport mandated by the EU Ecodesign Regulation.
Informational transparency: provision of verifiable data and technical instructions to baristas and consumers through digital channels integrated with the physical packaging.
Solution characteristics
The AnchorPass platform was used to organize all information related to the coffee's journey in a simple and intuitive way. <b>Without the need for advanced IT skills, Sevengrams was able to build a tailor-made system to describe every single production batch. </b> The system automatically creates a genuine digital "identity card" for each batch. All entered information—such as the geographical location of the plantations, ethical certifications, and sustainability data—is securely saved and protected by technology that guarantees its authenticity and impossibility of alteration over time.
Implementation
To translate these objectives into operational reality, the project followed a structured phased roadmap, moving from fieldwork and data collection to technological integration on the finished product. The no-code approach of AnchorPass allowed the entire supply chain to be digitalized in an agile manner, structuring the key steps as follows:
Supply chain analysis: the process began with mapping the supply chain nodes, identifying the necessary data collection points for traceability and existing quality control protocols.
Supply chain configuration on AnchorPass: using the drag-and-drop interface of AnchorPass, the supply chain to be traced was digitally structured.
Dataset configuration (no-code): the specific dataset to be included in the Digital Product Passports (DPP) was modeled. The dataset includes: coordinates of the origin finca, ethical certifications (e.g., Fairtrade), roasting date, and extraction recommendations.
Generation and certification of Passports per batch: After the batch profile was approved (such as the micro-batches of the Lot Zero line), a certified and immutable passport was generated on the blockchain for that specific batch.
QR code printing and integration with the physical product: The DPPs were linked to the coffee packages using QR codes printed directly on the packaging labels, completing the physical-digital traceability.
Operational results and benefits
The adoption of the Digital Product Passport generated an immediate positive impact, transforming transparency into a concrete competitive advantage. In addition to ensuring maximum data security, the solution improved internal efficiency and redefined the relationship with the end customer through multiple benefits:
Data certification: instant access via QR code allows for the irrefutable verification of certifications (e.g., Fairtrade) and roasting curves.
Customer support efficiency: integration of training content (extraction video tutorials) directly into the DPP, reducing the need for post-sales technical support.
Management flexibility: ability to dynamically update the data associated with the batch in real time, maintaining historical traceability of changes on the platform.
Real-time updates: in case of variations in technical sheets or updates on sustainability projects related to the plantations, AnchorPass allows Sevengrams to modify the data associated with the batch instantly and traceably.
Conclusions
The success of this project demonstrates how technological innovation can blend seamlessly with the tradition of artisanal coffee roasting. Thanks to AnchorPass, Sevengrams has not only anticipated future European regulatory mandates but has also built a bidirectional, transparent channel of trust with the consumer. This pioneering approach sets a new benchmark in the specialty coffee industry, where a product's value is finally certified and narrated through every single bean.
